The Chevy Blazer EV Has Finally Arrived With 320 Miles Of Range And A Starting Price Of $56,000

Jan 27, 2024Jan 27, 2024

The Chevy Blazer EV has finally arrived, boasting a maximum of 320 miles of range, combined with staggering specs.

General Motors is leaving no stone unturned in its quest toward mass electrification. Despite initially failing to conquer the EV industry fast and early with the Bolt EV and EUV, GM is still determined on extending its hegemony to the electric realm. The company is launching a strategic onslaught on the green market with a varied range of vehicles. Each addition seems to have a specific purpose. The Hummer EV fills the undercrowded niche of electric off-roaders, while the Equinox EV introduces the public to the company's future for a budget-friendly price. The Chevy Blazer EV, on the other hand, is a luxurious juggernaut that washes away the sour taste of its ICE predecessor, while also presenting GM's engineering excellence on a finely crafted design. The Blazer EV is far from just another oversized car with average specs. It is a performance SUV that threatens sports cars and pricier rivals, while also competing with the likes of the Tesla Model Y, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the Kia EV6 among others.

After much speculation and anticipation, the Blazer EV is finally arriving this month, with the RS All-Wheel-Drive version. General Motors has recently announced the release dates and price tags for all trims, besides the performance-oriented SS. Unfortunately, it now turns out the 1LT trim will no longer be available, which means the Blazer EV will now start with the 2LT All-Wheel Drive Variant at $56,715 instead of $44,995. We also have more info on the Police Pursuit version, which will join the lineup by next year.

During this month of August, dealers will begin receiving their orders for the $60,215 Blazer RS All-Wheel-Drive variant, which is the second-cheapest Blazer EV and includes all the features of the introductory 2LT. Consumers can thus expect the standard 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, an 11-inch Driver Information Center, Evotex seating, adaptive cruise control, and 360 surround vision. On top of that, the RS AWD will be garnished with a unique finish, and ornamented with an RS badging, animated exterior lighting, and mounted on 21 inch-wheels. The interior will include ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Rear camera mirrors will also be at the rendezvous, along with a heads-up display.

The Rear-Wheel-Drive version of the RS will begin production during the fall. It will be the most efficient of the panoply, with 320 miles of range on a full charge, and will start at $61,790. Those looking to buy the least expensive version will have to wait until next year, as the $56,715 2LT All-Wheel Drive version will not enter production until the last quarter of this year. General Motors is saving the best for last, as the performance-oriented SS will not commence production until spring of 2024. While the figures might seem intimidating, it is important to remember that the Chevy Blazer EV is one of the eight electric vehicles that are still eligible for the $7,500 tax cut granted by the Biden Administration.

The Blazer EV distinguishes itself from its peers with a few things. While its athletic build, and suave design command respect and admiration, its potential under the hood and inside the cabin are even more dazzling. Despite its gargantuan frame, the Chevy Blazer SS gives performance cars a solid run for their money with a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of just four seconds. The SUV’s beastly performance, combined with its overall practicality and user-friendliness make it a threat to every competitor in the market. In terms of efficiency, its fellow American, the Ford Mustang Mach-E falls short in comparison. Even with the recent upgrades, the Mach-E only boasts 250 miles on its most potent level.

The Blazer clearly has the advantage in that aspect with a maximum of 320 miles on a full charge. While the Model Y reigns supreme in the EV realm in terms of market share, the Blazer could soon threaten its hegemony over the sales charts. The Chevy offers a versatile line-up, with various powertrains and price tags to accommodate different budgets and needs. While the top-trim level of the Blazer is significantly costlier than the $53,990 Model Y Performance, the SUV makes up for it on every level with its luxurious interior. The Tesla has aged poorly in terms of cabin aesthetics. The plain minimalist look no longer cuts it, as electric vehicles have grown to feature more flamboyant cockpits. The Blazer capitalizes on that with ambient LED lighting in every trim, dazzling color options, and turbine-like air vents that enhance the sporty atmosphere. To crown it all, the high-end SUV will come equipped with the elite-level Super Cruise, which is the second-best Driver Assist System, according to Consumer Reports.

The Chevy Blazer Police Pursuit Vehicle is set to make its grand debut in the first quarter of 2024. The centenary carmaker, which has been equipping law enforcement with the Chevrolet Tahoe for over half a century, and more recently with the 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8 Chevy Silverado-is now touting the Blazer EV PPV as its fastest police-package vehicle to date. While we do not yet have the exact specifications, we do know that the police-pursuit variant will be based on the 2024 Blazer EV SS retail model, which churns out no less than 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque in WOW mode.

The Blazer EV PPV will also include the largest Ultium platform with the entire lineup. It’ll carry a 1,200-pound battery-pack low on its chassis. The low center of gravity, coupled with high-performance Brembo Brakes, should definitely maximize stability. To accommodate police duty, the Blazer PPV will further include:

The infotainment screen will also be adapted to facilitate police work while a Push to Talk function will be implemented for communication purposes. The addition is more than a mere veneer of vanity, electric police cars present a number of advantages, which is why some departments, like the California PD, are now fully transitioning towards EVs.

The NYPD has recently purchased 100 Mustang Mach-E GTs, twelve of which have already been deployed on Patrol in the Big Apple. Besides their lower emissions, electric vehicles are also quieter and more powerful, making them ideal for both stealthy interventions and fast-paced criminal chases. Over the cost of five years, an EV can save thousands of dollars in fuel, which means the expenses cut over a large fleet of police cars is in the hundreds of thousands.
